STARTUP & PROJECT COMPLETION

Industrial Machine Commissioning & Factory Acceptance Testing

Move from assembled equipment to verified operation with a defined startup plan. MCT Nexus supports controls checkout, sequence testing, acceptance activities, and the information your team needs after startup.

SERVICE SCOPE

Check the machine against agreed requirements.

Commissioning brings the electrical design, software, field devices, and process together. We establish prerequisites and a test sequence so issues can be recorded, assigned, and resolved. The scope may cover a new machine, a controls upgrade, or integration work at your facility.

  • Review of installation readiness, utilities, drawings, and software backups
  • I/O checkout, device configuration, and sequence verification
  • Operator-screen, alarm, interlock, and recovery checks within scope
  • Acceptance records, open-item tracking, and technical handover

PROJECT DELIVERABLES

What the scope can include.

A planned startup

Identify required personnel, production access, materials, utilities, and supplier support before the commissioning window.

Evidence of operation

Use agreed test conditions and record results, exceptions, and follow-up work.

A usable handover

Transfer final software backups, updated documentation, and operating or maintenance guidance included in the project.

PROJECT APPROACH

From the first review to handover.

01 / Prepare the test plan

Agree prerequisites, roles, acceptance criteria, available test materials, and how unresolved items will be managed.

02 / Check and run

Work through device checks and controlled sequence tests before demonstrating the agreed production behavior.

03 / Close and transfer

Review the punch list, record the delivered configuration, and walk the receiving team through the agreed documentation.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before we get started.

Can MCT Nexus support factory and site acceptance testing?

Yes. The work can include FAT, SAT, or a defined portion of either. Test ownership, witness requirements, site responsibilities, and acceptance criteria are set in the scope.

Can you commission equipment designed by others?

We can review the request. Access to current drawings, source programs, manuals, design contacts, and the required site resources determines the practical scope.

Preparing for a machine startup?

Tell us the equipment location, expected readiness date, controls platform, and the checks or acceptance activities you need.

Use an acceptance plan that follows the equipment requirements.

Prepare the test conditions

The commissioning and FAT scope should identify the requirements to be checked, the available equipment and the people responsible for acceptance. Define utilities, sample parts, process materials, connected machines and any interfaces that will be simulated. A test can only demonstrate behavior under the conditions actually provided.

Build from device checks to system operation

Start with the agreed electrical verification and device identification. I/O checkout confirms the relationship between field devices, wiring, controller information and software descriptions. Device-level tests then establish commands, feedback and expected responses before the complete sequence is exercised.

Functional testing can cover modes, normal cycles, permissives, alarms, recipes, communications and recovery. Protective functions require the specific verification and validation activities established for the machine. An ordinary cycle test is not a substitute for those activities.

Record evidence and exceptions

A useful test record identifies the requirement, setup, expected response, observed result and disposition. Open items should have an owner and a planned resolution. Distinguish a failed requirement from an item that could not be tested because the necessary part, utility or interface was unavailable.

Complete site acceptance and handover

Site commissioning addresses the installed utilities, field connections, production interfaces and operating conditions. The acceptance plan should state which checks are repeated at site and which additional production checks are required. Startup support and ongoing production support are separately defined activities.

The handover can include released drawings, native PLC/HMI files, device configurations, test records, operating information and training. Identify the accepted machine revision and any remaining limitations. See our FAT planning guide for a practical way to organize the discussion.
